Camp History
When Mark Kapner was young, his favorite part of every year was going away to summer camp. In 1998, he started Swing Out New Hampshire because he wanted to share his two favorite things – the fun of summer camp and his love of Lindy Hop! SONH started at Camp Walt Whitman, the camp Mark first went to when he was seven years old. He invited his favorite Lindy Hop instructors, and the first summer was sold out.
After five summers, we had outgrown the ability of Camp Walt Whitman to contain all the fun we were having (and the volume levels of our bands and late night dancing), so we moved to Camp Wicosuta. Wicosuta has been a summer camp for 89 years and is a wonderful venue.
At the close of camp in 2013, Mark handed the reins over to Mike Thibault, the new director, so that new generations of Lindy Hoppers can experience this great camp.
